DELANO, CALIF. (CrimeStory.com) On June 13, 2023 David Martinez. the man who was acquitted twice for the murder of Pomona SWAT officer Shaun Diamond and subsequently pleaded “no contest” to charges of manslaughter and assault on a police officer, was released from North Kern State Prison on parole after spending over eight and a half years in jail and prison. David’s son, David Martinez, Jr. and his defense attorney, Brady Sullivan, picked him up and took him home.
The story of Diamond’s tragic death and Martinez’s journey through the criminal legal process is the subject of Night Raid, an 8-part original podcast series, distributed in a partnership between eOne Entertainment, Crime Story Media, LAist 89.3, and podcast company Acast.
The news of Martinez’s release was reported by the podcast’s producers, Television writer Molly Miller and Oscar and Emmy winning producer Kary Antholis.
Hours after his release David Martinez sent Miller and Antholis the following statement:
“I am beyond thrilled to announce that, after 8 and ½ years of incarceration, I am now a free man. I have reunited with my family and look forward to rebuilding my life with the people that I love.”
The Night Raid podcast series has released six of its eight episodes with episode 7 scheduled to air on LAist 89.3 this Saturday June 17 at 2pm, and this Sunday at 7pm, and with the podcast scheduled for release on Sunday June 18. You can find more information about the series here.
